The Elite Literary Book Group produces a series of video lessons to guide learners as they prepare for  advanced study of language arts. The shorter poetry and prose based videos can be found here and our larger novel-based videos organized by  great work study can be found at our Udemy site. These videos are built around guiding the reader through a close reading of a text and provide strategies for thinking through a variety AP test prompts.

Looking for some continuing insight into how great literature can enhance, sharpen, and enrich your life? Keep up with The Elite Literary Book Group's continuing blog. Join us as we tackle the issues that matter to you and your life and use the rich perspectives of literature and literary study to guide, support, and clarify. As Ezra Pound notes: “Man reading should be man intensely alive. The book should be a ball of light in one’s hand.”

THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD ANALYSIS/AP LITERATURE/Q3

In this video, I take you through a past Q3 question from the AP Literature test using Their Eyes Were Watching God, a great novel to have under you belt because it fits well with most prompts. In the Q3 series offered on our channel, I show how to elevate your claim in your thesis so that the rest of the essay will be analysis rather than summarization of the plot. Click on the links below if you’d like to take a full course, analyzing the novel from cover to cover, revealing context and background information in terms of discussing the novel, and exploring its universal themes. This will give you an edge (and perhaps make you edgy) in your approach to writing your Q3 essays. The three courses I offer--The Great Gatsby, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and The Catcher in the Rye will give you all you need to prepare for the Q3 question, which asks you to write about the novel as a whole (not a plot summary). If you are interested in our full courses on Udemy, please use the following links: Catcher in the Rye https://www.udemy.com/course/elite-literary-book-group-catcher-in-the-rye/?referralCode=A123EB4ED8E46B7047E2 Their Eyes Were Watching God https://www.udemy.com/course/elite-literary-book-group-their-eyes-were-watching-god/?referralCode=885DDFF9F66078109783 The Great Gatsby https://www.udemy.com/course/elite-literary-book-group-the-great-gatsby/?referralCode=C80CC7A8908C2175DA8C The panel discussion I allude to in this video is here: https://www.c-span.org/video/?305212-1/zora-neale-hurstons-their-eyes-watching-god&start=4348
